WHERE EAGLES SOAR

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).  Those who achieve this rank are called an Eagle Scout or Eagles.  Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than 1.9 million young men.  The title of Eagle Scout is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase, "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle."

To earn the Eagle Scout rank a Scout must fulfill merit badge requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills and pass through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle.  Beginning with the Star rank and continuing through Life and Eagle, a Scout must demonstrate leadership skills by holding one or more youth positions of responsibility within the troop.

Merit badges signify the mastery of scout craft skills.  Of the 120 merit badges available at least 21 must be earned to qualify for Eagle Scout.  Of this group 12 are required including First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Environment Science, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Camping and Family Life.  In addition, A Scout has a choice between Emergency Preparedness and Lifesaving and a choice among Cycling, Hiking and Swimming.

The Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project is the culmination of the Eagle Scout candidates leadership training and must benefit his church, school or community.  The amount of time spent in project planning and execution should be as much as is necessary to domonstrate his leadership of others.  It cannot be performed for an individual or business, be of commercial nature or be solely a fund-raiser.

After all requirements are met the Scout must pass an Eagle Scout Board of Review.  On that date he is officially an Eagle Scout.  He can complete the board of review after his 18th birthday as long as all other requirements are completed before his 18th birthday.
